China all set to regulate AI photo-video content with punishment; new rules to be effective from…

The government of China has tightened the rules regarding content generated with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The new rules state that it is mandatory to label such content as ‘AI-generated’. It comes after the repeated cases of confusion and misuse.

What are the new rules?

The new rules by the Chinese government aim to regulate the usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The new rules are likely to be effective from next year.
In recent times, people have had a hard time differentiating between content as ‘real’ and ‘AI-generated’ or ‘fake’. This causes a lot of confusion.

In the month of January, an earthquake of 6.8 magnitude impacted Tibet. During this time, the photos of a child surfaced online in which he was seen buried under debris. Later, the investigations suggested that the pictures were AI-generated.

Government’s decision

Due to the confusion among people, the government has now made it mandatory to label the AI-generated photos and videos. This will lead to less confusion among the people. In the last week of October, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress decided to approve these changes.
