LeCun exits Zuckerberg’s Meta, and Alexandr Wang leads AI division now; reason is…

In recent news about Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, the long-time AI scientist Yann LeCun is reportedly leaving the company. This comes after Meta’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) laid its bet on Alexandr Wang, making him the Chief AI Officer of Meta. Wang’s company is Scale AI, into which Meta has invested almost USD 15 billion.

Who’s LeCun?

According to the reports of The Economic Times, Meta’s long-time AI scientist, Yann LeCun, is leaving the company. It’s because he disagrees with the new directives around AI and its large models. He’s a professor at New York University and always preaches that artificial intelligence models can never surpass the human level of reasoning.

Who’s Alexandr Wang?

Wang is the co-founder and former CEO of Scale AI, which is a data annotation and infrastructure company. Zuckerberg-led Meta is planning to invest almost $15 billion into Wang’s company. In addition, Alexandr is to lead the superintelligence division. This comes as a decision to shift from the previous AI strategy of Meta.

Mark Zuckerberg’s decision

According to the reports, Mark Zuckerberg reorganised the AI team at Meta, which resulted in a hierarchy in which LeCun had to report to Alexandr Wang. Alongside, Meta’s grand investment in Wang’s Scale AI gives it a stake of 49% in the company.
Several investors are expressing their worries. They’re sceptical as to whether the company will be able to compete after its Llama 4 model didn’t perform as well as expected.
