CM Sukhu leads anti‑chitta walkathon in Shimla; thousands take oath against drug abuse
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today launched a massive campaign against chitta and led the anti‑chitta awareness walkathon from the iconic Ridge in Shimla to Chaura Maidan. Thousands of people — including students, common citizens, senior citizens, Cabinet ministers and MLAs — participated.
People from all sections of society, students, public representatives, officials and distinguished citizens joined the walkathon. The CM also administered an oath at Ridge, pledging to fight against drug and substance abuse.
Addressing the public at Chaura Maidan, the CM said today marks an important turning point in the history of Himachal Pradesh. He added that a drug‑free Himachal is not merely a government program but a public movement, the voice of the people, and a battle for the identity of Himachal.
He said mothers will be the backbone of this movement, because when a mother awakens, the whole society rises and becomes alert. The CM also appealed to religious institutions to raise their voice against chitta, saying that when all people in the state unite to spread the message of ending chitta, nothing can stop its complete eradication.
He further said drug peddlers, who are poisoning the future of children and destroying families, have no place left in Himachal Pradesh. “The government is ready, the police are ready, and most importantly, the people are ready to wipe out chitta from the state,” he added.
Thousands of people, including youngsters, school and college students, common citizens and senior citizens, participated in the state‑level anti‑chitta awareness walkathon organised by the Himachal Pradesh Police, aiming to eradicate the menace from the state.
The walkathon was flagged off by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who also administered the oath, pledging to wipe out substance abuse from the state. It started at the historic Ridge and concluded at Chaura Maidan.
The campaign will also be held across the state over the next three months, with anti‑chitta awareness walkathons in all districts.
DGP Ashok Tiwari said the people, including students, social organisations and volunteers, will actively take part in the initiative and help make Himachal Pradesh free from chitta.
