'Homebound' streaming release: When and where is Neeraj Ghaywan film coming out?

Nearly two months after its theatrical release, filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan's Homebound, is gearing up for its streaming release. Netflix will premiere the acclaimed drama on November 21. It was released in theatres on September 26.

Starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles, Homebound revolves around two childhood friends, Shoaib Ali and Chandan Kumar, who dream of becoming police officers, motivated by their strong desire for respect and dignity.

The film marks the second full-length feature by Neeraj Ghaywan after his 2015 directorial debut Masaan.

Like Masaan, Homebound was screened at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section earlier this year as well as the Toronto International Film Festival. The film got a nine-minute standing ovation at Cannes. Its global impact was underscored when filmmaking legend Martin Scorsese came on board as an executive producer.

During a recent screening hosted by the acclaimed filmmaker in New York, Scorsese said he was creatively involved in the film. “I have seen it so many times… having gone through the script. I was making Killers of the Flower Moon and that was a long film and I was immersed in that,” he told the audience while interacting with Neeraj. “But I remember this, because I remember reading the script, and so in a way I have been living with it for 3 years so honestly it is quite satisfying that it is here. I love that audiences in America get to see this picture.”

In an earlier statement endorsing the film, Scorsese said he "loved the story and the culture and was willing to help," adding that "Neeraj has made a beautifully crafted film that’s a significant contribution to Indian cinema."
