Senior citizens Pension: Senior citizens above 60 years of age will receive old age pension without filling out a form, the government announced.
Old Age Pension: The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has made a major announcement for seniors over 60. Now, there’s no need to fill out any forms for old-age pensions. Therefore, there’s no need to visit offices to receive old-age pensions.
UP Govt Old Age Pension Scheme: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has taken a major decision regarding old age pensions in the state. Eligible senior citizens will no longer need to apply separately for pensions. This will save millions of senior citizens in Uttar Pradesh from having to run around offices and stand in long queues. Simply turn 60 and your pension will be credited directly to your account.
Social Welfare Minister (Independent Charge) Asim Arun stated that the Family ID “One Family, One Identity” system will automatically identify eligible beneficiaries, and upon receiving their consent, pensions will be approved directly. Currently, 6.75 million senior citizens are benefiting from this scheme, but a significant number remain excluded from the pension due to inability to complete the process.
Learn about the UP government’s decision
At the cabinet meeting held on November 14th, the UP government took a major decision for the elderly. Now, eligible elderly people above 60 years of age living below the poverty line will be automatically registered under the National Old Age Pension Scheme. This means there’s no need to fill out forms or visit offices. The government has decided to link this scheme to the Family ID system. As soon as a senior’s age is above 60 years in the Family ID, their name will automatically be included in the pension list. The pension will then be transferred directly to their account. The government says that with the help of Family ID, more eligible people will be identified and they will be provided with the benefits of every important government scheme.
Consent will be obtained as follows:
The new system will automatically generate a list of citizens who will turn 60 in the next 90 days based on their Family ID. This list will be sent to the Social Welfare Department’s pension portal via API. The department will first obtain consent from eligible citizens through digital means such as SMS, WhatsApp, and phone calls. Those who do not consent digitally will be physically contacted by a Gram Panchayat assistant, Common Service Center, or departmental employee. If consent is not obtained at both levels, such names will be removed from the process.
₹990 crore will be spent
Currently, destitute elderly people in the state receive a monthly pension of ₹1,000 based on application. However, once linked to the Family ID, the entire application system will be eliminated and the process will become fully automated. The state government will spend an additional ₹990 crore to implement this reform. The new system will make pension distribution faster, more transparent, and more reliable, ensuring timely financial assistance for millions of elderly people.
Learn what Family ID is?
The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a scheme called Family ID to ensure that every family can easily access government schemes and employment opportunities. Each family is assigned a unique 12-digit number, called a Family ID. This ID helps the government compile a list containing accurate information about each family. This helps determine which families are eligible for which schemes and which assistance is available to whom.
