Rajesh Gupta slams traffic police, seeks LG’s intervention

JAMMU, Nov 17: Senior National Conference leader Rajesh Gupta today sharply criticised the Traffic Police for what he termed “complete failure” in enforcing traffic regulations across the city.
In a statement issued, Gupta said that despite regular announcements and recorded messages urging the public to follow rules, there has been no improvement in on-ground discipline.
He said matador and mini-bus drivers continue to halt indiscriminately to pick up passengers, creating sudden congestion and unsafe conditions for commuters.
“Unchecked honking has made daily travel stressful, especially during evening hours, forcing many senior citizens to avoid driving at night,” said Gupta.
Expressing concern over increasing use of high-beam headlights and powerful flashlights within city limits, he said, “Such violations are making night driving hazardous. These issues are widespread, yet the Traffic Police has failed to initiate strict action.
Appealing to LG Manoj Sinha, who heads the Home Department, Gupta urged direct intervention to restore order on Jammu’s roads.
He demanded regulation of matador stoppages, curbs on unnecessary honking and strict checks on misuse of headlights.
“The Traffic Police lacks accountability and authorities should not wait for a major accident before acting. Timely enforcement is essential to ensure safe and stress-free travel for Jammu residents,” he asserted.
