Farah Khan reveals how Farhan Akhtar failed his college admission, shares Javed Akhtar’s angry reaction, ‘Sharam nahi aati…’
In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood, we often see star kids as the most privileged people, someone who has everything sorted and figured out. However, behind their picture-perfect life is a lot more than what meets the eye. One such similar situation was with Farhan Akhtar, who, despite belonging to an affluent, well-read family, was denied admission in college. Recently, choreographer-filmmaker Farah Khan sat down with her first cousin Farhan Akhtar for her latest YouTube vlog. As Farhan gears up for the release of his upcoming war drama 120 Bahadur, the two cousins revisit their childhood, their bond, and an unforgettable incident where a routine college admission turned into a moment of major embarrassment
Growing Up Together
Farah started the conversation, revealing how both families shared a strong bond. She said, “When Sajid (Khan, Farah’s brother) and I were small, Farhan’s mother gave us refuge and help. And we lived together for many years in Farhan’s house.” She recalled that during their younger days, Farhan lacked direction. “When Farhan was in college, he was completely aimless. I am a witness because I had gone to get one college admission for him… while his marks were very poor.”
When Farhan Akhtar was denied admission to college
The turning point of the memory came when Farah narrated what happened at the college. The principal did not shy away from expressing her thoughts. Farah shared, “Main isko admission de rahi hoon because of Javed Akhtar saab (I am giving him admission because of Javed Akhtar saab), but actually he doesn’t deserve to be in this college.”
Javed Akhtar’s Reaction
Farah revealed that on their way back home, the family was visibly upset and embarrassed, except for Farhan, who was aloof from the magnitude of the situation. They were crossing Marine Drive when something unexpected happened. Instead of reflecting on what had just happened, Farhan casually asked his father for a snack. Farah recalled, “We were crossing Marine Drive, and we thought Farhan was also feeling bad, but he asked his father to buy him masala bhel!”
This triggered Javed Akhtar, Farhan’s father, even more, and he said, “Sharam nahi aate tumhe (Aren’t you ashamed?).”
Farhan’s Journey Ahead
Today, Farhan Akhtar is far from an aimless teenager. As he prepares to play Major Shaitan Singh Bhati in 120 Bahadur, directed by Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai, the film is all set to release on November 21, 2025, set against the backdrop of the 1962 Indo-China war.
