Sheikh Hasina Death Sentence: 2 Awami League supporters killed, ‘Shoot at Sight’ orders issued, Yunus government says, ‘No one above..’

Dhaka: Violence has once again erupted on the streets of Bangladesh after the country’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was given the death sentence by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT). Awami League protesters blocked several highways in Dhaka. In many places, clashes broke out between the police and demonstrators. On Monday, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death. She was found guilty of crimes against humanity for her role in suppressing last year’s student uprising.

According to Bangladeshi media, police used batons, sound grenades, and tear gas to disperse the crowds. Two people have died in the violence. To recall, before the sentencing, the banned Awami Leaguehad called for a two-day nationwide protest.

Before the verdict, the Yunus government had deployed heavy police forces in Dhaka, with orders to shoot at protesters.
