MDL lays keel for multi-purpose vessel for Navi Merchants
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL), a Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking, held the keel-laying ceremony for the second vessel (Yard 21002) of the 7,500 DWT Multi-Purpose Hybrid Vessel series for Navi Merchants, Denmark, at its North Yard on Monday. Production of the vessel commenced on October 16, 2024. The ceremony was officiated by Biju George, Director (Shipbuilding), in the presence of Simon Rodian Christensen, CEO, Navi Merchants, together with senior representatives from Navi Merchants, Det Norske Veritas (DNV), and MDL. Under the terms of the contract, MDL will design, construct, and deliver six such Multi-Purpose Vessels. The vessel measures 116.2 metres in overall length and has a deadweight of 7,500 tonnes. It will feature a hybrid propulsion system and is designed to attain a speed of not less than 11 knots, supported by a shaft-generator power take-off of approximately 85 kW. The vessel will be constructed under DNV survey and certified in accordance with its classification rules.
