Mumbai Local Train BIG UPDATE: Mumbaikars on Tuesday morning faced problems as local train services on the Central Railway’s main line were disrupted. The main cause of the disruption was a fracture that was detected later between Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg stations in Mumbai.

According to officials familiar with the incident, the fracture was detected on the down slow line in the morning at around 7:32 am. The fracture prompted authorities to restrict the speed limit on the route and divert services to maintain safety.

The small fracture caused the run 10 to 20 minutes behind schedule, some commuters said. The Mumbai local train is considered as a lifeline of the city and they are always on time. Because of their punctuality a large number of people are dependent on these trains. Most of the office goers were mostly affected due to the delay.

What Did The Central Railway Say?

Railway workers worked on the fracture and declared the line safe for train movement with a 30 kmph speed restriction. The slow local trains were diverted from Matunga station to the fast route.

It is worth mentioing that Central Railway’s main line connects south Mumbai with the eastern suburbs. It also connects the interior parts of Thane and Raigad.

Notably, over 35 lakh people travel on the Central Railway’s suburban network daily.

Here’s What Commuters Said

“The incident caused suburban trains, considered the lifeline of Mumbai, to run 10 to 20 minutes behind schedule,” some commuters said.

“Railway personnel attended to the issue immediately and declared the line safe for train movement with a 30 kmph speed restriction at 7:58 a.m.,” Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Swapnil Nila, said.

“Till that time, the slow local trains were diverted to the fast line from Matunga station,” he said. The Central Railway’s main line connects South Mumbai with the eastern suburbs and interior parts of neighbouring Thane and Raigad districts. More than 35 lakh commuters travel on the Central Railway’s suburban network every day.
