4 drug peddlers arrested; poppy straw, opium seized

UDHAMPUR, Nov 18: In three separate cases, Police arrested four drug peddlers besides recovering 15.31 kg poppy straw and 893.17 grams opium from their posession.
During routine checking on the Srinagar- Udhampur NHW, Police team of PS Chenani, led by SHO Raghubir Singh, intercepted a Toyota Taxi JK02DG-1160 and recovered 15 kg 310 gms of poppy straw.
The accused have been identified as Tarandeep Singh, son of Hardev Singh, resident of Makhan Pur Gojran, Jammu and Parvinder Singh, son of Surjit Singh, resident of Ward No. 2, Bhour Camp, Chhatha, Jammu.
Both were arrested on the spot and a case FIR No. 121/2025 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered in this connection at Police Station Chenani. Further investigation is in progress.
Police team of Police Station Udhampur, led by SHO Purab Singh, intercepted a motorcycle during routine checking at Naka Jakhani. The bike bearing registration number JK21F-1953, was coming from Srinagar side towards Jammu.
During checking, the rider identified himself as Manohar Lal, son of Laju Ram of Kundhail, Tehsil Paddar, District Kishtwar. On search of his shoulder bag, police recovered 422.90 grams of opium.
In this regard FIR No. 397/2025 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur and the accused has been arrested.
Another drug peddler was arrested at Tikri naka point on the National Highway. The naka party observed an individual walking from the Jammu side towards Udhampur carrying a black bag on his shoulder. On noticing the police presence, he turned back abruptly and attempted to move away suspiciously but was promptly intercepted.
During preliminary questioning, he disclosed his identity as Sunil Kumar son of Ashok Kumar, resident of Near Dak Bunglow, Udhampur. A search of his bag led to the recovery of 472.27 grams of opium.
In this regard FIR No. 193/2025 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Rehambal and the accused has been arrested for further investigation.
