Lyallpur Khalsa College honours women’s hockey team
The women’s hockey team of Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women, Jalandhar, an institution renowned for its longstanding contribution to women’s hockey in Punjab-was specially honoured by Principal Dr Sarabjit Kaur Rai for securing second place in the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Amritsar Inter-College Hockey Championship.
Congratulating the team, Dr Rai described the players as “the pride of the institution" and expressed confidence that they would continue to excel in future competitions. She emphasised that, following the directions of the college’s managing committee head Bibi Balbir Kaur, the institution provides free education, free hostel accommodation, and free coaching to its hockey players.
Highlighting the team’s outstanding performance, Dr. Rai noted that Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women defeated Khalsa College Amritsar 8-0 and BBK DAV College Amritsar 9-0. In the closely contested final match, the team narrowly lost 2-1 to GNDU Campus Amritsar, finishing as runners-up in the championship. The college community applauded the players’ dedication, celebrating their achievement as a testament to the institution’s commitment to promoting women’s sports.
