New Delhi: The Modi government has been working relentlessly to improve the country’s road connectivity. Over the past 11 years, it has developed a series of expressways that have significantly enhanced and streamlined the travel experience for commuters. In this sequence, the Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway is also being widely discussed.
Here are some of the key details:
- The Varanasi-Kolkata expressway will connect Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, via Bihar and Jharkhand.
- The areas through which the Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway will pass will see rapid development, improved connectivity, and diversion of traffic.
- Property prices will rise sharply, providing a strong base for a robust economy.
- According to claims, the construction of the Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway may be completed by March 2028.
- The Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway, which will connect Chandauli in Purvanchal to Uluberia near Kolkata, will prove to be a gamechanger for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
- Starting from Chandauli in UP, the expressway will enter Bihar through Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, and Gaya districts, and then move into Jharkhand.
- In Jharkhand, it will connect Chatra, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Peterbar, Ranchi, and Bokaro, before reaching the Purulia border in West Bengal.
- From Purulia, the expressway will pass through Bankura and Arambagh to reach Uluberia (near Howrah, Kolkata).
- This 610-km-long expressway will end on NH-19.
- The foundation stone for the Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway was laid in 2024, and land acquisition and other works are being accelerated.
The expressway starting from Barahuli village in Chandauli near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh will be connected to Uluberia in Bengal. During this stretch, the Varanasi–Kolkata Expressway will pass through various districts of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Bengal.
Notably, the districts through which this expressway will pass will experience improved connectivity, which can boost business activities. Along the expressway route, several commercial establishments such as restaurants, hospitals, schools, petrol pumps, etc. can be developed.
