Who was Manju Kumari Sinha?

Manju Kumari Sinha lovingly known as Manju Devi, came from an educated family and pursued her career in teaching. She used to teach children at the Kamla Nehru Government Girls’ School in Patna.  Manju lived a disciplined life dedicated to family and education.

When Nitish Kumar Rode A Bike In Love At Midnight

In the year 1985 when Nitish Kumar returned Bakhtiyarpur after becoming an MLA for the first time, he received a grand welcome. But his wife Manju wasn’t there to welcome him. She went to her maternal home in Sewdah for some work. Not finding his wife by his side, Nitish decided to go to Sewdah, which was 40 km away from Bakhtiyarpur. He requested on of his companions to take out his motorbike and rode it 40 km to meet Manju. When she saw Kumar at her doorstep, her happiness knew no bounds, as per Bhaskarenglish.

Manju Kumari Sinha’s Marriage and Family Life

Nitish and Manju tied the knot on 22 February 1973 when he was studying at Bihar College of Engineering. At that time, Sinha was pursuing sociology at Patna’s Magadh Mahila College.

As per author Uday Kant’s book ‘Nitish Kumar: Through the Eyes of Intimate Friends’, Manju’s father Krishnanandan Babu said, ‘Forget about my community, at that time, in any caste in the whole of Bihar, there couldn’t be a better match for an intelligent daughter like Manju than Nitish Ji.’

The couple was blessed with one son, Nishant Kumar. Manju focused on family and stood as the biggest support for Nitish during his political career.

Sinha provided emotional and moral support to Nitish during his challenging time in his political journey. Friends and family members remember her as the guiding force behind Nitish’s major decisions.

Accusations Of Irregularities In Getting A Job For His Wife

Bihar newspapers accused Nitish Kumar of violating guidelines to call his wife to Delhi. He got really disturbed by the news and wrote a letter to the then CM Lalu Prasad Yadav, requesting that he cancel Manju’s deputation.

She then returned to Patna. Whenever Nitish got a chance, he would go to Patna from Delhi to meet Manju and his son. In her holidays, she would take her son to Delhi.

Manju Kumari Sinha Tragic Demise

Manju Sinha passed away on May 14, 2007 at the age of 53. She died due to severe pneumonia at Max Hospital, Delhi. Her untimely death was a big shock to Nitish Kumar. The family brought her body to Patna and performed the cremation here on the banks of the Ganga.
