Jagatsinghpur administration razes encroachments built by suspected Bangladeshi nationals

The statewide crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants has gained further momentum, with eviction and demolition drives being carried out across multiple districts of Odisha. Authorities are conducting aggressive verification and clearing operations to remove those staying without valid documents.
In Jagatsinghpur district, the administration has intensified the operations on Friday. Several makeshift houses built illegally on government land by suspected Bangladeshi nationals have been demolished in different areas.
The impact of the drive is now visible near Beherampur, where some suspected Bangladeshi families, reportedly fearing action, have begun dismantling their own houses and vacating the encroached land voluntarily. Officials said these individuals had been occupying government land for years without authorisation. However, it remains unclear where these families have shifted after abandoning their settlements.
District authorities confirmed that the operation will continue in the coming days as part of a coordinated effort to identify, verify and remove undocumented foreign nationals staying illegally in the region.
“We have been living here for the last 60-70 years, and we hail from Dhanipur area. The district administration directed us to vacate the place. We will leave on the footpath,” said the woman, who was seen leaving her home.
Earlier on Thursday, the police had raided the residence of Sikandar Alam, the prime accused in providing rented accommodation to Bangladeshis. The raid was conducted at Sikandar’s house, located in the Dhanipur slum in the district.
An Additional SP and the SDPO, along with two platoons of police force, were deployed at the spot.
