IN PICS: BMC Launches AI-Powered 'War Room' For Real-Time Monitoring Of Desilting Operations In Mumbai

Mumbai: In a significant move to boost transparency and efficiency in Mumbai’s pre-monsoon drain desilting operations, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has inaugurated a dedicated ‘War Room’ on the sixth floor of its extended headquarters. The initiative, driven by cutting-edge technology, aims to streamline monitoring across wards, zones, and nullahs, ensuring accountability and timely progress.

Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani inspected the newly operational facility on April 29. He was briefed by Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar on the technological and administrative framework of the War Room. Also present were Chief Engineer (Storm Water Drains) Shridhar Chaudhary and other senior officials overseeing the project.

War Room

The War Room employs Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to track and analyse desilting progress. It features a real-time dashboard accessible to both officials and the public, offering transparency and enabling citizens to view the status of desilting activities in their respective localities. The dashboard displays data on the quantum of silt removed, current work status, and ward-wise updates.

To maintain seamless operations, a dedicated team has been deployed to the War Room in two shifts. Each shift includes a Sub-Engineer responsible for data oversight and ensuring timely updates from the ground. This round-the-clock monitoring is expected to significantly reduce delays, improve inter-departmental coordination, and enhance public trust in civic initiatives.
