More bad news for Pakistan as India plans to ban e-commerce and electronics exports, Pakistan will now…

Bad news for Pakistan: In a significant setback for Pakistan amid the rise in tensions between the two countries, the government of India is reportedly planning to ban the indirect export of Indian goods to Pakistan from third countries. For a context, it was reported by Global Trade Research Initiative that Indian goods worth over USD 10 billion are reaching Pakistan every year indirectly through ports, such as Dubai, Singapore, and Colombo, bypassing the Indian trade restrictions. Here are all the details you need to know about the possible recent step from India.

Readers must note that the direct trade between India and Pakistan was almost stopped after the 2019 Pulwama attack, which was reportedly linked with Pakistan. However, the GTRI report said that Indian goods like chemicals, cotton, tea, electronics, jewellery and e-commerce products worth more than $10 billion are reaching Pakistan every year through indirect re-routing of trade.

In the re-routing process, the Indian goods are first sent to a third country where they are unloaded by third parties and rebranded with ‘Made in Colombo’ or ‘Made in UAE’ labels. If India takes the step towards banning this export, over $10 billion worth of Indian goods which enter Pakistan through third countries, including electronics, jewellery, pharmaceuticals, and e-commerce products may get impacted and Pakistan may be in trouble.

India planning military action in next 24-36 hours: Pakistan

Pakistan recently claimed that it has “credible intelligence” that India is planning military action against it in the next 24-36 hours and warned New Delhi that there would be consequences. The statement came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday told the top defence brass that the armed forces have “complete operational freedom” to decide on the mode, targets and timing of India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack, as per a report by news agency PTI.

Notably, tensions between the two countries have seen a major rise after the Pahalgam terror attack last week that killed 26 people.
