Maharashtra News: NCP Chief Sharad Pawar Supports Congress Call for Special Parliament Session On Pahalgam Terror Attack, Stresses National Unity

Mumbai: In a statement made on Wednesday, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar expressed his support for the Congress party's call for a special session of Parliament to address the Pahalgam terror attack. Pawar emphasized that such a session would send a strong message of national unity.

Pawar, who was in Thane for a ceremony at the Tulja Bhavani temple, described the Pahalgam attack as an attack on the nation. "The families who lost their loved ones in this attack have paid a price for this country. Therefore, we must not bring up issues of religion, caste, or language at this time. If any forces are attacking Indians today, we must come together as citizens of this country without any expectations. We fully support whatever measures the Prime Minister and other authorities are taking in this matter," Pawar stated.

He further reiterated that all political parties are united in their approach to the attack. "Some of our colleagues have made the demand for a special session of Parliament. The entire country is united on this issue. All parties and Parliament stand together. A special session would be helpful in sending a message of unity to the world," Pawar said.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and show a collective resolve.

The attack took place on April 22, when terrorists opened fire at a meadow near the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. The attack killed 26 people, mostly tourists, and injured several others.

During his interaction with the media, Pawar was also asked about the possibility of reconciliation between Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and his cousin, Raj Thackeray, who heads the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. Pawar expressed a positive outlook, saying, "If it happens, it's for the good. When two families come together, it is always a positive development."

Addressing the media, Pawar also reflected on his personal spiritual practices. "During my tenure as the Chief Minister, I visited Pandharpur to worship Lord Vitthal for the welfare of Maharashtra on several occasions. I have also conducted pujas at the Tulja Bhavani temple in Tuljapur. Some people say that I do not participate in such events, but that is only half the truth. One should never display their inner devotion for show." Pawar added.

The event in Thane was organized under the leadership of NCP legislator Jitendra Awhad, who spearheaded the construction of a replica of temple of Tulja Bhavani. The consecration ceremony (Pran Pratishthan) was held on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya, with Sharad Pawar and his wife Pratibhatai Pawar leading the prayers. NCP's state president Jayant Patil, former minister Anil Deshmukh, along with other party leaders and workers, were also present at the ceremony.
