Navi Mumbai Crime: 24-Year-Old Man Arrested From UP's Unnao For Brutal Murder Of Roommate In Khalapur After Drunken Brawl

Navi Mumbai: The Raigad Local Crime Branch (LCB) has arrested a 24-year-old man from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, for the brutal murder of his room partner in Khalapur. The accused, Lavkush Raja Paswan, allegedly killed Subhash Trilokbrij Vishwakarma following a drunken brawl and attempted to conceal the crime by dumping the body near a railway bridge and covering it with stones.

The incident took place on April 22, but the crime came to light on April 26 around 1 p.m., when railway staff patrolling the Khopoli-Karjat railway line discovered the body of an unidentified man near bridge number 107/4 close to Naavandhe village in Khalapur.

The victim, believed to be between 40 and 50 years old, had sustained fatal head injuries inflicted by a blunt object. Stones had been strategically placed over the body in an apparent effort to hide the evidence.

Khalapur Police registered a case under sections 103(1) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. With no identification documents, mobile phone, or wallet found on the deceased, the police launched an intensive investigation relying on technical surveillance and local informants.

Under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Abhijit Shivthare, two LCB teams led by Police Inspector Balasaheb Khade, API Nagesh Kadam, and PSI Lingappa Sargar began scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding areas.

Their efforts revealed two individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior in one of the footages. One of them, Paswan, was found to have abruptly left his job and returned to his native village in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh.

A team was immediately dispatched to Unnao, and with strategic coordination, Paswan was located and apprehended in Kulaha village, Hasanganj taluka. Though he initially denied any involvement, sustained interrogation and mounting technical evidence led him to confess to the crime.

"According to Paswan’s confession, he and the victim, Subhash Vishwakarma—a native of Gorakhpur employed at Godrej Company in Khalapur—had only recently met and were staying together. On April 22, after consuming alcohol, a minor argument between the two escalated. In a fit of rage, Paswan pushed Vishwakarma to the ground and struck him on the head and chest with a large stone, killing him instantly. He then covered the body with stones and fled to Uttar Pradesh by train," PI Khade said. Paswan was brought back to Alibag for further investigation.
