India has issued a stern warning to Pakistan after the neighbouring country continued ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to defence sources, the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries talked over hotline to discuss the situation.
Pakistan Army has resorted to unprovoked small arms firing in multiple sectors across the border in the last few days as tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad have heightened after the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22.
India Army has responded swiftly and effectively, officials said.
The latest such incident was reported from the Pargwal sector along the IB in Jammu district, and the Sunderbani and Naushera sectors in Rajouri district.
"On the night of April 29-30, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the Line of Control opposite the Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir," a defence spokesperson said on Wednesday.
The ceasefire violations by the Pakistan Army began on April 24 shortly after India suspended the Indus Water Treaty in response to the Pahalgam attack in which 26 civilians, mostly tourists, lost their lives.
India and Pakistan had agreed to a renewed ceasefire in February 2021 when the DGMOs of both countries reaffirmed their commitment to the 2003 ceasefire agreement.
The Pahalgam attack has pushed the nuclear-armed neighbours to the brink of a war after New Delhi alleged cross-border links to the strike and involvement of Pakistan-based terrorists.
