Bhopal: Notorious Cyber Fraudster Nabbed
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Cyber crime branch police on Wednesday arrested a notorious cyber fraudster who had duped hundreds of bank customers posing as an official of Delhi crime branch.
The accused had digitally arrested a woman in Bhopal and duped her of Rs 90,000 on pretext of framing her in a case.
DCP (crime) Shailendra Singh Chauhan said a woman approached cyber crime branch on April 28 and informed that she received a video call on March 5 from a man posing as an official of Delhi crime branch and said that a case was registered against her.
He forced her to transfer Rs 90,500 in his account while claiming that the amount would be given to lawyers, judges to cancel the case.
An FIR was registered on her complaint and following investigations police traced the location of mobile numbers used in the crime and arrested Azad (38) of Rathigaon in Kanpur, UP. A mobile phone and six SIM cards used in the cyber frauds were seized from him.
Modus operandi
The accused used to trap bank customers posing as Delhi crime branch official and used to scare them of warrant and arrest. He used to force people to transfer cash in different bank accounts on pretext of omitting their names from the fake case.
A Class 8 dropout, Azad who operated alone used to purchase mule bank accounts and fake SIM cards on Telegram. He used bank accounts and SIM cards of other states to commit cyber frauds and was in the crime for the past five years.
Police have found records that he duped people in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and other Hindi speaking states.

Police investigations revealed that not only Azad but large number of youths of Rathigaon and adjoining villages were involved in committing cyber frauds from people across the country.
Azad himself used to commit small cyber frauds while fooling people on pretext of KYC update etc. However, for the past eight months, he started duping bank customers through digital arrest. He randomly called people by changing the last digits of mobile numbers of Hindi speaking states.
Jamtara is a district in the state of Jharkhand, India. It is known for being a hotspot for cybercrime, particularly phishing scams.
