MC nod to hike in parking fee in Chandigarh
The Municipal Corporation has approved the proposal to increase parking rates from 30 to 40 per cent.
The rates of parking for two-wheelers will be enhanced from Rs 7 to 10 (from 15 minutes 4 hours), from Rs 10 to 16 (from 4 to 8 hours) and additional Rs 5 per hour after 8 hours. The fee for the parking lots at Elante Mall, Fun Republic in Manimajra and Piccadilly MultiPlex will be Rs 35 (up to 4 hours), Rs 50 (from 4 to 8 hours) and additional Rs 5 for every hour.
Similarly, the rates for four-wheelers will be enhanced from Rs 14 to 20 (from 15 minutes to 4 hours), Rs 25 (from 4 to 8 hours) and Rs 10 for additional per hour. The rates for parking lots at the three multiplexes will be Rs 85 (up to 4 hours), Rs 155 (from 4 to 8 hours) and additional Rs 20 for every hour. No fee will be charged for 15 minutes.
The Congress and AAP have opposed the increase in the parking rates.
Councillors to get 10 passes
Despite the MC facing the financial crunch, the councillors have approved the proposal for increasing free passes to them from three to 10. The proposal was, however, opposed by the MC Commissioner, who suggested only five passes should be issued to the councillors. However, the House approved 10 free parking passes for them.
Proposals deferred
The House deferred the agenda about enhancing the licence fee for giving permission to erect or re-erect hedges and fences on municipal land. The councillors have referred the issue to a committee for further discussion.
The agenda for compound surcharge at the rate of 10% of water bill has also been referred to the Water Committee With regard to the proposal to implement Haryana Fire And Emergency Services Act, 2022, the councillors said it may be referred to Fire and Emergency Committee.
