Cap, muffler & a mission: Kullu’s Sumit wins big!
Rotaractor Sumit Thakur, recently conferred with the prestigious National Award by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, was honoured by Rotary Club Kullu in a special ceremony on Tuesday for his exemplary contributions to social service.
Thakur’s recognition by the Centre has been hailed as a proud moment for Kullu and a milestone for youth-led humanitarian initiatives. His dedication, particularly during the Covid-19 crisis, earned him national recognition from a pool of over 7 lakh applicants—marking his second national accolade in the field.
The event saw participation from dignitaries, including Rotary Club president Anshul Prashar, Kullu Rotary Eye Hospital chairman Indeevar Mehta, founder general secretary Dr PD Lal and Rotarians Aman Bhalla, Gyan Banga, Pooja Malik, Anuj Malik and Rajiv Singh. Thakur was felicitated with a cap, muffler and certificate as symbols of appreciation.
President Prashar lauded Thakur’s tireless commitment to social causes and called his award a source of inspiration for the youth across Himachal. “This is a proud moment not just for Kullu but for the entire state,” he said.
In his address, Thakur expressed gratitude to the Centre and reaffirmed his mission to continue impactful social work. He shared plans to spearhead youth awareness campaigns, especially around drug abuse prevention and promoting positive, community-driven lifestyles.
The ceremony was not just a celebration but a rallying call for youth to engage in service. Members of the Rotaract Club Kullu encouraged more young people to join hands in making a meaningful difference in society.
