Beas water level may rise due to discharge from Pandoh dam

The authorities concerned have issued a safety advisory for residents and visitors not to go near the Beas as its water level may rise unexpectedly due to the possible release from the Pandoh dam in Mandi district today. The Additional Superintending Engineer of BBMB, Pandoh, said that due to continuous snowmelt in the dam’s catchment area, water inflow into the reservoir had increased significantly.

To manage the rising water level, the dam’s spillway gates may be opened at any time to release excess water. This precautionary step was necessary to maintain the structural safety of the dam and ensure smooth water regulation. However, it may result in a sudden surge of flow in the Beas. In light of this, the public has been advised not to go near riverbanks in the next 24 hours. People residing or working in low-lying areas along the river have been urged to stay alert and follow safety guidelines. The authorities have also appealed to people for cooperation to prevent any untoward incident.

The district administration is monitoring the situation and will issue updates, if required. The public has been requested to remain vigilant and prioritise safety over curiosity during this period.
