Pakistan’s Olympic gold medalist in javelin throw, Arshad Nadeem, has had his Instagram account blocked in India following a “legal request,” more than a week after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed 26 lives.
Users trying to access Nadeem’s Instagram profile from India are shown the message: “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.“

On April 22, terrorists opened fire in Baisaran Valley near the popular tourist town of Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir, killing 26 people. Since then, the government has launched action against Pakistani social media accounts with significant followings in India.
In reaction to the attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has launched a series of other tough measures as well. These include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari-Wagah border, cancelling the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, expelling Pakistan's military attaches from New Delhi and reducing diplomatic staff at both High Commissions.

Nadeem, who triumphed over Neeraj Chopra to win the gold medal in the Javelin event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, recently made news by turning down Chopra’s invitation to compete in the NC Classic javelin event in Bengaluru on Saturday, May 24, citing prior commitments, particularly with the upcoming Asian Athletics Championship.
Last year, Nadeem made history at the Paris Olympics by setting a new Olympic record for the longest javelin throw in men’s event history, securing the gold medal. With an impressive throw of 92.97m, he now holds the record for the sixth-longest throw in the history of men's javelin.
