Centre Allows Pakistani Family To Extend Stay In India After April 30 Deadline Ends: Report

Amid heightened tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, a Pakistani family residing in Visakhapatnam has been granted a temporary reprieve from expulsion with authorities citing humanitarian concerns. The decision of the Indian government offers a rare moment of compassion during a period marked by strict government directives for Pakistani nationals to exit India.

The family in question includes a Pakistani father and elder son, alongside an Indian mother and her younger Indian son, reported Siasat. While the family's stay had come under scrutiny due to visa issues, officials acknowledged the dire health condition of the younger son and the ongoing visa application process as key reasons for the relief.

Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shanka Brata Bagchi said that Foreigners Regional Registration Office has permitted them to stay until further orders, as reported by The New Indian Express.

Following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 Indian lives, the Centre had issued a mandate requiring all Pakistani citizens in India to depart by April 30. This family was among those affected by the sweeping directive. However, in a decision, authorities have allowed the family to remain in Visakhapatnam, acknowledging the medical emergency as an exceptional circumstance.

Pakistani Patient Dies In Chennai

In a separate but related development, a 23-year-old Pakistani national receiving treatment at MGM Healthcare in Chennai passed away on April 25 after more than two months of critical care. Admitted on February 12 with severe respiratory distress linked to interstitial lung disease, the patient had been on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support for 70 days—a highly advanced life-sustaining measure used when both the heart and lungs are failing.

Despite the hospital's intensive efforts, including specialized care over an extended period, the young man could not be saved, the facility confirmed in a statement released Monday.
