India’s GST Collections Hit Record Rs 2.37 Lakh Crore In April
India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue reached an all-time high of Rs 2.37 lakh crore in April 2025, marking a 12.6 per cent year-on-year increase from Rs 2.10 lakh crore recorded in April 2024, according to official data released on Thursday.
This record-breaking collection reflects sustained momentum in domestic consumption, improved tax compliance, and a pick-up in overall economic activity. Notably, this is the highest GST revenue since the tax system was introduced in July 2017.
A significant portion of the April revenue came from domestic transactions, which saw a year-on-year increase of 10.7 per cent, amounting to Rs 1.9 lakh crore. Meanwhile, GST from imported goods surged by 20.8 per cent, reaching Rs 46,913 crore. The rise in cross-border trade and better monitoring mechanisms have contributed to this growth.
Additionally, the government processed refunds worth Rs 27,341 crore in April, which represents a sharp 48.3 per cent increase over the same month last year.
