He’ll be back soon: Detained BSF jawan’s wife

Rajani Sahu, the wife of Purnab Kumar Sahu of 24 battalion BSF who has been under detention of Pakistan Rangers for the past 10 days, today went back home after meeting senior batallion officials here in Jalalabad.

Talking to The Tribune, Rajani, who hails from Hoogli district in West Bengal, said she had met the BSF officials of 182 battalion in Jalalabad area last evening. “The BSF officials assured me that they were trying their best to bring back my husband through diplomatic channel" she said, adding that she had been told to wait for few days and keep patience. Rajani along with her son and three other family members left for Amritsar in the afternoon to take flight back home.

Earlier, on April 28, she had reached Mohali airport from where she was escorted to Kangra in Himachal Pradesh to meet the senior officials belonging to 24 battalion BSF. Subsequently, she arrived here day before evening, to meet the BSF officials in Jalalabad. BSF officials remained tight-lipped about her visit.

“I am hopeful that my husband will return soon. He is innocent and has done nothing wrong. The BSF officials told me that the matter was in knowledge of Director General BSF who was also making efforts to bring Purnab back," said Rajani.

On April 23, Sahu was nabbed by the Pakistani Rangers while being on “Kissan Guard" duty in the fields near border outpost Jalloke. The Pakistani authorities have remained silent on this matter after having three flag meetings with the BSF, citing the issue was under consideration of the senior authorities.
