Damaged drains in Nurpur market pose serious risk

Several damaged road-crossing drains in Nurpur market, under the jurisdiction of the local Municipal Council (MC), have become accident-prone black spots. These drains, damaged during the monsoon rains of 2023, have not been repaired, leading to frequent mishaps—especially involving pedestrians and two-wheeler riders at night.

The lack of visibility in dark hours has worsened the risk, as the MC has failed to place warning signs or barricades at these hazardous locations. Among the worst-affected areas is the Dunga Bazar road, where numerous accidents have occurred over the past year and a half due to the open and broken drains.

Residents and shopkeepers have expressed strong resentment over the MC’s continued apathy. Local shopkeepers Rommy, Ravi Mehra, Subhash, and Rajesh Kumar have urged the MC to adopt a more sensitive approach to public safety. They stressed the urgent need for repairs to prevent further accidents.

Despite repeated complaints, the Municipal Council has taken no visible action to resolve the issue. When contacted, Ashok Sharma, President of the Nurpur MC, stated that the damaged road-crossing drains would be repaired soon to prevent future accidents.

Until then, local citizens remain at risk due to the negligence of civic authorities, and the call for immediate action grows louder by the day.
