Toll Plaza system: Big News! Automatic penalty system will be installed at toll plazas, now driving without valid documents will be expensive

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is now planning to install a smart system at toll plazas that will automatically check the vehicle and impose the fine itself without any human intervention.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is now planning to install a smart system at toll plazas that will automatically check the vehicle without any human intervention and will also impose fines on its own. In the first phase, this system will be installed at some special toll plazas in Rajasthan. And later, there is a plan to implement it on state highways and city roads as well.

At which places will the system be started first?

According to an NHAI official, initially this system will be implemented at seven toll plazas. These include NH-52, Kuchaman-Kotputli State Highway and Jhunjhunu Road. Vehicles passing through these places will now be checked with high-resolution cameras and software.

How will this system work?

Whenever a vehicle passes through the toll plaza, the cameras installed there will scan its number plate. After this, a special software will check the registration data of that vehicle and see whether the vehicle’s insurance, fitness certificate, Pollution Under Control (PUC) and registration are valid or not. If any document is found expired or missing, an automatic fine will be imposed at the same time and the vehicle owner will also get information about it through SMS.

Updating the mobile number will also be necessary

An RTO official from Jaipur said that the government is now going to run a campaign in which vehicle owners will be asked to update the correct mobile number in their registration certificate (RC). This work can either be done online through the vehicle portal. Or it can be done directly by going to the RTO office. All this data will be linked to the central government’s vehicle portal and the local RTO database.

Strictness on rule breakers and increase in revenue

The purpose of this new technology is not only to strictly enforce the rules but also to increase the income of the traffic department. A transport department official said that through this system, not only the validity of documents like pollution certificate, insurance and fitness will be checked. But things like overloading of the vehicle can also be monitored. This entire system is being implemented under the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2019.
