Taxi driver arrested for killing live-in partner in Gurugram
The police have arrested a 31-year-old taxi driver, Mustaq Ahmed, for killing a 35-year-old divorced woman, Pooja, with whom he had been living in a live-in relationship for two years in Gurugram.
The accused, who had claimed that his name was Sunil, murdered the woman after she got to know that he was married. After killing Pooja, the accused hid her body under the bridge of a canal in Uttarakhand and fled to Karnataka. After six months, the Gurugram police now arrested him on Wednesday.
The body was sent for the post-mortem examination. The police have taken the accused on 6 days’ police remand after producing him in a city court.
The deceased, who was a native of Uttarakhand. She was divorced and has two children, aged 17 and 14 years, from her first marriage.
Even as Mushtaq and Pooja had been living in a live-in relationship for two years, he got married to another woman in 2024. When Pooja got ot know about his marriage, Mushtaq left Pooja in Gurugram and went back to Uttarakhand. Later, she reached Uttarakhand to meet Mushtaq at his house, where they had a fight, following which his family threw them out of the house.
“Later, Mushtaq took Pooja to his sister’s house on November 15 last year to get rid of her. After staying there for a day, he took her to the Nadanna canal, where he slit her throat with a knife. The accused wrapped her body in a bed sheet and hid under a canal bridge. He then ran away to Karnataka. Pooja’s sister had filed a missing complaint at the Sector 5 police station. We are questioning the accused,” said a spokesperson for the Gurugram police.
