Pune: Ahmednagar MLA Sangram Jagtap's Father, Arun Jagtap, Passes Away; Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar & Others Mourn His Demise

Ahmednagar MLA Sangram Jagtap's father, Arun Jagtap, passed away in the early hours of Friday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Pune for over a month. He was 67 years old. Fondly called 'Kaka', he is survived by his wife Parvati, sons Sangram and Sachin, daughters-in-law and grandchildren.

Arun Jagtap's political career started with the Congress. He held the post of Youth Congress president. He also served as a corporator and mayor. He was the president of the District Cricket Association. He was also elected to the Legislative Council twice from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He contested the Legislative Assembly elections twice but was defeated on both occasions. Jagtap's family belonged to the Warkari sect, and he had deep faith in Lord Vitthal. During the 'Wari' of Pandharpur, he used to devote himself to the service of the Warkari people passing through Ahmednagar. Apart from this, he was interested in horse riding, new vehicles, agriculture, hotels and industrial business.

Politicians, including Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, NCP MP Sunil Tatkare and several others, mourned his demise.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Pawar wrote, "The sad demise of former MLA Arunkaka Jagtap has left a powerful leader who was active in many fields like politics, social work, art, sports, education, and cooperation, and had a strong connection with the common people. He will always be remembered by the people of Ahilyanagar as the then President of Ahmednagar Municipality, President of District Cricket Association, President of Ayurveda Shastra Mandal, experimental farmer, and true leader of the Warkari sect. His demise is a great loss to the Ahilyanagar district, and may his son MLA Sangram Jagtap, the entire Jagtap family, and workers get the strength to bear the shock of his demise. We all share in the grief of the Jagtap family. May the soul of the late Arunkaka rest in peace—this is our prayer."

Tatkare added, "Very sad news of the passing away of senior leader and former MLA of the Legislative Council, Arun Kaka Jagtap. His contribution to the political, social, and developmental journey of Ahilyanagar has been invaluable and memorable. Arun Kaka, who constantly worked for the welfare of the people, laid the foundation for the progress of the city with immense hard work. The void created by the passing of Arun Kaka in Maharashtra politics cannot be easily filled. The imprint of his work, thoughts, and personality will remain in the minds of the people for a long time. We express our heartfelt condolences to his family on this sad occasion. May God grant peace to his soul."

Sharad Pawar wrote, "The sad news of the demise of former MLA Arun Jagtap is deeply distressing. Arun Jagtap started his political and social career in Ahmednagar (now Ahilyanagar). From local self-government bodies to the Legislative Council, he fulfilled various responsibilities with utmost diligence and honesty. While working as a corporator, mayor and MLA of the Legislative Council, he constantly tried to understand the problems of the common people and solve them. I express my heartfelt condolences to the Jagtap family and pay my heartfelt tribute to Arun Jagtap."
