Meet 38-year-old actress who once faced serious financial crisis, took major risks, now charges Rs 10 crore per film, has become…
Samantha Ruth Prabhu is no longer limited to South cinema; Bollywood fans now know her well too. She gained widespread recognition for her performance in The Family Man 2 alongside Manoj Bajpayee. Currently, the actress is in the news for her upcoming film Shubham. The film is produced under the banner of her own production house, Tralala Moving Pictures, which she launched in 2023. Ahead of the release of this much-anticipated film, the actress said in an interview that taking risks is essential for moving forward in one’s career.
“You can’t expect meaningful change without taking risks, and I don’t think I’ve ever shied away from taking risks. More often than not, those risks have paid off, so probably after 15 years of learning and of being an actor, I believe I’ve gained that kind of insight and experience needed to be sure of the stories I want to tell,” Samantha told IANS.
“We are confident that we support each other fully, and we are committed to putting out work that’s intentional and never middling or half-hearted,” added Samantha, who has been feted with two Nandi Awards and a Tamil Nadu State Film Award for her acting prowess.
Samantha stepped into the world of cinema in 2010 with Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa and gained the spotlight in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Telugu film, Ye Maaya Chesave.
But do you know she had a financial struggle when she couldn’t even afford to pay her school fees. To support her family, she took on small, odd jobs and began part-time modelling. In an old interview, the actress recalled her childhood, saying, “When I was studying, my mom and dad told me to study hard, and you will make it big. I studied hard. I topped 10th standard, 12th standard, and college. But then, when I wanted to study further, my parents could not afford it. I had no dreams, no future, nothing”. She added, “I ate one meal a day for at least two months. I worked odd jobs. And I’m here today”.
Today, she charges Rs 10 crore for a movie, and has become a producer.
