Ramayan’s ‘Sita’ Dipika Chikhalia auditioned for THIS role in Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Raj Kapoor rejected her by saying…

Ramanand Sagar’s popular TV serial Ramayan was one of the iconic serials that India’s audience has ever seen. The serial till date remains close to people’s hearts and so are its characters. From Arun Govil portraying Lord Ram to Dipika Chikhalia essaying the role of Sita Maa, some of the characters from the show still remain in people’s minds to this day. However, for Arun and Dipika, what did not work out after the series was being stereotyped and getting the same type of characters in their next projects.

Ramayan started in 1988 and before that, Dipika, who started her journey in the cinema industry, was looking for big roles. Dipika has revealed in an interview that she had auditioned for the lead actress in the film Ram Teri Ganga Maili. However, she faced rejection. To run her bread and butter, the actress was doing small roles and was on the lookout for bigger opportunities.

With nothing to her luck, there was even a time when Dipika thought of quitting the industry. Then the actress came to know that the showman of Hindi cinema, Raj Kapoor, was making the film Ram Teri Ganga Maili and he was looking for an actress.

While Dipika thought the movie would have a religious angle to it, hence, she reached for the audition. When Raj Kapoor saw her, he immediately said no. He emphasized that Dipika was very young back then and was not suitable for the film, claims an NDTV Hindi report.

Initially, this came as a setback for Dipika . However, in the following year, she was offered Ramayan, which gave her career new heights. The actress also thought that if she had played the role of Mandakini in Ram Teri Ganga Maili, she would not have got the role in Ramayan, and today she would not be known among the people as Sita Mata.
