Police yet to find clues in murder case of lawyer, woman companion

In a shocking case of abduction and suspected double murder, the Kapurthala police are yet to recover the bodies of a lawyer and his woman companion, allegedly killed after being kidnapped from AGI Flats near Haveli on GT Road, Phagwara.

Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora confirmed that the primary accused, Harvinder Singh alias Pinder, who was brought on police remand, has not been cooperating during interrogation and continues to mislead investigators with fabricated stories. He has not disclosed the locations where the bodies were possibly disposed of.

Harvinder was arrested in a joint operation with Gujarat Police on Monday from a roadside eatery in Lakadia village, approximately 52 kilometers from Bhuj. He is the prime suspect in the disappearance and alleged murder of advocate Sanjeev Kumar and his friend Anju Pal, who have been missing since April 19.

Harvinder, a convict serving a life sentence in a case involving assault on a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) from Moga, was out on parole and was due to return to jail on April 23. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Harvinder was previously married to Anju Pal, who later separated from him and began living with Sanjeev Kumar.

The flat in AGI Complex where the couple lived showed no signs of forced entry or escape, raising further suspicion. Initially, Harvinder and Anju are believed to have plotted to abduct and kill Sanjeev, but Harvinder allegedly changed his mind, and growing suspicious of both, killed them instead.

Police have already arrested three of Harvinder’s associates — Balraj Kaur, Kuldeep Singh alias Billa and Rupinder alias Pinda and recovered the lawyer’s car from Ludhiana. During questioning, Harvinder confessed to abducting and strangulating the duo on the night of April 19, after which he fled to Kutch.

Speaking to the media this evening, SSP Gaurav Toora stated that the investigation is being conducted on a war footing and assured that the case will be cracked soon. SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti confirmed that the accused were presented before the court today, which granted a nine-day police remand. She added that intensive interrogation will continue to uncover the full truth.
