4 members of family killed in road mishap

Four members of a family lost their lives after a speeding tipper truck collided head on with their car near Jeevan Pandher village located on the Amritsar-Mehta road here today.

Those killed were identified as Gurdev Singh (65), his wife Malkeet Kaur (60), both residents of Boja village under the Ghuman police station, their daughter Paramjit Kaur (35) of Balpuria village in Batala and their nephew Dharminder Singh (30) of Boja village. The victims were returning home after seeing off Dilpreet Singh, grandson of Gurdev Singh, at Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport who had to fly to England.

Balwinder Singh, SHO, Tarsikka police station, said the incident occurred near Jeevan Pandher village. The victims died on the spot. Their relatives, including parents of Dilpreet Singh, were travelling in another car. The incident has left the family devastated.

The SHO said the exact cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained though a case had been registered against unknown driver of the tipper truck who fled from, while leaving his vehicle at the accident spot.

An eyewitness told the police that the driver was driving his tipper truck at high speed which led to the accident. The police with the help of the people took out bodies of the deceased from the car. The police said bodies would be handed over to the family after post-mortem examination. Investigation was on to identify the tipper truck driver and arrest him, the police said.
