AI will better students’ profile along with skills: VC Awasthi

Prof Lalit Awasthi, Vice Chancellor of Sardar Valabh Bhai Patel University, Mandi, said artificial intelligence (AI) would help in improving profile of students along with their skills.

Addressing a conclave at Himachal Pradesh Technical University, He said the AI should be used holistically and related it to the New Education Policy.

He said the AI could significantly enhance both campus placements and alumni management in educational institutes by automating processes, improving decision-making and strengthening engagement. He said the AI could automatically screen and rank student resumes based on employer requirements, saving time and ensuring better candidate-job matches.

He added that AI tools could analyse student profiles and identify skill gaps compared to industry needs and would help students to focus their learning.

Prof Awasthi said AI-driven platforms could suggest career paths based on a students’ academic record, interests and market trends. He said AI-powered virtual interviewers could conduct mock interviews and provide real-time feedback on communication skills, body language and technical responses and every technical institute should adopt such advanced technologies that can save time and money both.

Shashi Dhiman, Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh Technical University, said campus placement drives help students to get job before they complete their courses and save them from mental stress. He said institutions must arrange special budget for placement cells.

Dr Somesh Sharma, placement officer of the National Institute of Technology, said students must be trained for industry requirements. He added that apart from academics, institutes should also focus on practical and work oriented approach.

Heads of many engineering colleges affiliated to the HPTU and placement officers of several companies also addressed the conclave.
