6 held for hurling burning bottles at house

The police have arrested six persons, including three juveniles, for hurling burning bottles at a house in the Ram Darbar area in the wee hours of April 28. A case was registered at the Sector 31 Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023.

This is second such incident reported from the area in the recent past.

As per Amro (52), a resident of Phase 2, Ram Darbar, a group of five to six young men gathered at the rear gate of her house at around 1 am on the intervening night of April 27 and 28. They attempted a break-in and hurled abuses at her son Kusu.

The miscreants were armed with glass bottles filled with flammable liquid and threw these at the house after setting the bottles afire.

A minor fire broke out at the door and in the gallery of the house. The attackers, who called each other by names such as ‘Shivam’ and ‘Makki’, fled the spot soon after hurling burning bottles, she added. A police team led by Inspector Rajiv Kumar, under the supervision of SDPO (South) Jaswinder Singh, arrested Umesh Chhola (23), Ashutosh, alias Ashu (19), and Priyanshu, alias Makki (20), all residents of Ram Darbar.

The police have confirmed that Ashutosh has a criminal background, including two FIRs registered against him in 2024 and 2025. Umesh and Priyanshu, however, have no known crime history. All three are unemployed and of lower educational background. Three juveniles were also apprehended in the case.

Though no physical recovery has been made so far, investigations are underway to determine their motive and to identify their accomplices, if any. Even as the attack has raised serious concerns about the safety in the area, the authorities have assured that a strict action will be taken against those trying to disturb public order.
