Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jyoti Yadav in a press conference stated that on April 25, Sub-Inspector Nitish Kumar, in charge of Hedon police post, along with his police party, had set up a checkpoint near the police post. During the checking, a Fortuner bearing registration number HP-24E-2355 arrived with four persons sitting inside it. The police stopped the car and identified the occupants as Jagpreet Singh and Gursewak Singh, both from Sherpur, Moga, and Jagrup Singh and Jass Singh, both from Makhu, Ferozepur. During the search of the vehicle 10 gm of heroin was seized from the dashboard compartment. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act and Section 111 (Organised Crime) of the BNS.
The SSP added that during the questioning of Jagpreet, the police made the recovery of an illegal .32 bore country-made pistol, along with a magazine. Jagpreet further confessed that he was involved in the commercial purchase and distribution of heroin and illegal arms to his clients. He also revealed the involvement of his accomplices Hardeep Singh of Ferozepur and Gurlal Singh of Karnal. During further interrogation of the accused, it came to light that several individuals were involved in this illegal drug network and were identified as Prakash Gupta of Khorivali village (UP), currently residing in Kharar, Mohammad Yasin also from UP, Vanshika Thakur, a native of Dehradun, currently residing at Aura Enclave, Kharar, Tanu from Dharamkot and Lovepreet Singh from Amritsar. They were found to be actively involved in the drug trafficking network operated by Jagpreet. The SSP said they were also made accused in the case and subsequently arrested.
Yadav said that during the investigation, it was revealed that the accused were using both Indian and foreign WhatsApp numbers to communicate with each other. Through these platforms, they shared drug pick-up locations and coordinated deliveries. Jagpreet was found to be receiving active assistance from Gupta, Yasin, Vanshika and Tanu in executing this drug supply network. They were residing in two rented flats in Kharar. The payment was received through Google Pay and subsequently deposited in the bank accounts of Tanu.
“It was also found that Jagpreet maintained contact with individuals inside jails, who would call him from within the jail to inform him of the delivery locations. A person would then arrive at the specified location to hand over the narcotics to him. On multiple occasions, Jagpreet procured drugs from Lovepreet by going to locations provided by him,” Yadav added.
