Flights Delayed: The Delhi airport was hit by a lot of bad weather on Friday. More than 500 flights were delayed due to thunderstorms and strong winds, while three flights had to change their routes. An official said that two flights landing at Delhi airport were diverted to Jaipur and one to Ahmedabad in the morning. A strong storm hit Delhi in the morning with heavy rain. According to PTI news, the storm caused a house to collapse, killing a woman and her three children and causing massive waterlogging in the city.
Second highest rainfall in May since 1901
According to the news, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that this is the second highest rainfall in 24 hours in the national capital in May since the year 1901. According to data from flight tracking website Flightradar24.com, more than 500 flights were delayed. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the airport’s operator, said in a post at 5.20 am that some flights were affected due to bad weather. In a post at 7.25 am on X, DIAL said that the thunderstorm has passed but there is some impact on flight operations due to adverse weather conditions.
Dial gave this advice
The airport operator issued several X posts during the day, informing about road blockages around the airport and advising passengers to consider alternate transport options such as the Delhi Metro to avoid delays. Dial said in a post on X at 8.55 pm that the airport is fully operational, although some flight operations may be affected due to weather conditions. Heavy rain and thunderstorms in Delhi this morning caused air traffic congestion. IndiGo said in a post on X at 2.49 pm that as a result, flights have been affected and delayed.
Air India and SpiceJet also alerted
Tata Group’s Air India also said that adverse weather has affected flight operations in parts of North India. The airline posted on X at 5.51 am – Some of our flights to and from Delhi are getting delayed or rerouted, which is likely to affect our overall flight schedule. We are trying our best to minimize disruptions. SpiceJet also said that there is heavy congestion at ATC (Air Traffic Control) in Delhi due to bad weather.
