'Becoming a troubling norm’: NCP MP Supriya Sule slams Delhi Airport, Air India as bad weather affects operations
NCP(SP) leader Supriya Sule
Nationalist Congress Party leader and MP Supriya Sule slammed the Delhi airport and Air India for inadvertent delays at the facility on Friday and urged the Union civil aviation ministry to intervene. Flight operations were affected at the Delhi International Airport on Friday owing to heavy rains.
The NCP leader said passengers were visibly distressed due to delays at the airport. “At Delhi Airport, experiencing yet another delay by Air India. Flight was scheduled for 10:30 PM, delayed to 11:30 PM, and now further pushed to 11:45 PM. Passengers are stranded and visibly distressed. This isn’t an isolated case—it’s becoming a troubling norm. Urging the Hon’ble Civil Aviation Minister to intervene without delay," Sule tweeted.
The opposition MP had slammed the airline earlier as well over flight delays and poor services. However, responding to Sule's tweet, Air India said flight operations were affected at the airport due to adverse weather. "Dear Ms. Sule, adverse weather earlier in Delhi today delayed multiple flights that had a cascading effect on our schedule across the network. Your flight will depart shortly. We appreciate your patience and understanding," Air India tweeted.
Heavy rains lashed Delhi on Friday, leading to chaos at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital as several flights were delayed or diverted owing to weather. Delhi airport on Saturday said the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted inclement weather conditions on Saturday as well and it could affect flight operations at the airport. Passengers were advised to contact their airlines for the latest updates.
