Asia Cup 2025 Likely To Be Cancelled Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

As the excitement of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 continues in India, uncertainty now surrounds a major upcoming cricket tournament.

With half of the IPL season already completed and the Indian team set to tour England for a five-match Test series afterward, attention was expected to shift to the Asia Cup 2025. However, fresh concerns have emerged, casting serious doubt on whether the tournament will go ahead as scheduled.

Asia Cup 2025 likely to be cancelled

According to a Times of India report, the Asia Cup 2025 is now under threat following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Security concerns stemming from the incident have led to the possibility of the tournament being cancelled. Also, India's planned tour of Bangladesh - which included both T20Is and ODIs - may also be scrapped due to heightened safety risks.

Following the Pahalgam attack, the Indian government has adopted a firmer stance towards Pakistan, further complicating the situation.

The precedent for such developments already exists. In 2023, the Asia Cup was co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka after India refused to travel to Pakistan. The Indian team played all its matches in Sri Lanka, including the high-profile clash against Pakistan, and eventually won the tournament by defeating Sri Lanka in the final.

Similarly, during the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025, India again avoided traveling to Pakistan and instead played its matches in Dubai - where the team defeated New Zealand in the high-voltage final to lift the trophy.

Given that the Indian team has not visited Pakistan since 2008, the likelihood of cross-border fixtures remains slim. With tensions escalating, both the Asia Cup 2025 and the Bangladesh tour now face serious uncertainty.
