JF-17, J-10C fighter jets… these five Chinese weapons can trouble India in limited war against Pakistan, Modi govt needs to….
After the Pahalgam terror attack, tensions between India and Pakistan are at their peak. There is a fear that a war may start between the two countries. Although the possibility of a full-fledged war is very low, but in case of a limited conflict, China has sold some weapons to Pakistan, on which Pakistan’s army depends a lot. If these Chinese weapons work, then India will definitely have to work a little harder in case of war, but if they do not turn out to be as durable as the Chinese goods, then Pakistan can immediately surrender even in a limited conflict.
Pakistan seems to be fully prepared for war, while India is in a mood to surprise. Experts say that just as Western countries have tested many of their weapons, such as HIMARS Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) or Patriot Missile Defense, on the battlefield in the Ukraine war, Chinese weapons are going to be put to the test in the India-Pakistan war. Let us know about those five Chinese weapons that Pakistan has, which can trouble India.
J-10C fighter aircraft
In 2021, Pakistan bought 25 Chinese J-10C fighter jets. China calls it a 4.5 generation fighter aircraft. The J-10C was inducted into the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in 2022 and is often compared to the American F-16 Block 70. The Pakistan Air Force called it a revolutionary change at that time. It is claimed that this fighter jet enhances Pakistan’s electronic warfare capability. The J-10C fighter aircraft has indigenous Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, Imaging Infrared Seeker (IIR) PL-10, WS-10B engine and PL-15 air-to-air missiles. In case of war, Pakistan will definitely field this fighter jet, so the performance of the J-10C will be monitored.
JF-17 Fighter Jet
Pakistan operates another Chinese fighter jet, the JF-17, which is a lightweight, multi-role fighter jet. The fighter jet has advanced avionics, electronics, flight control systems and an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar. It can also fire Chinese air-to-air missiles such as the PL-10, PL-12 and PL-15 . It is capable of carrying a variety of weapons including air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons, guided and non-guided bombs and anti-ship missiles. According to Eurotimes, the combination of the JF-17 and PL-15 could prove to be particularly lethal as it would enable Pakistan to hit targets 200-300 kilometres away. The JF-17 would be able to carry out stand-off attacks without risking entering heavily guarded Indian airspace. However, India has the S-400 air defence system, which it is not possible to penetrate.
HQ-9 Air Defense System
The HQ-9 is a long-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system developed by China Precision Machinery Import-Export Corporation (CPMIEC). Pakistani experts compare it to the Indian S-400 air defense system. It is designed to intercept various aerial threats including fighter jets, drones and missiles. This air defense system was developed based on technology acquired from Almaz-Antey, a Russian company that manufactures the S-300, S-400 and S-500 air defense systems. But the HQ-9 includes elements of the Russian S-300 missile system. The system came into service in the early 2000s. The HQ-9A variant came into service in 2001. Later, more advanced variants such as the HQ-9B were added. In 2021, Pakistan also purchased its HQ-9P variant.
SH-15 Howitzer
The SH-15 Howitzer was inducted into the Pakistan Army in 2019, which is a 6×6 wheeled howitzer. China has designed this NATO standard 155 mm gun to fire a variety of ammunition including high-explosive shells with a range of up to 50 km, laser-guided GP6 rounds and rocket-assisted projectiles. It can fire 6 rounds per minute and is specifically designed to attack specific targets, supply chains, infrastructure. The system’s digital fire control, GPS/BeiDou navigation and thermal imaging can hit targets accurately even in the rugged terrain of Kashmir. China claims that the speed of the howitzer can go up to 90 km/h and it is accurate for hit-and-run tactics. It can play an important role in a short battle.
CH-4 Drone
If there is a clash between India and Pakistan, Pakistan will definitely use the Chinese drone CH-4. The CH-4B Rainbow, a battle-proven drone, becomes an important weapon for reconnaissance, precision strikes and intelligence gathering. It can be very effective especially in the Line of Control (LoC). It has been developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and is a medium-altitude, long-endurance UAV that looks like the American MQ-9 Reaper. It can stay in the air continuously for 14 hours and has a range of 1500 kilometers. It provides real time information and can target targets. Its 345 kg payload supports a variety of weapons including AR-1 laser-guided missiles, FT-9 bombs and anti-radiation missiles to suppress enemy air defenses.
