Change Of Guard In Kerala Congress? KPCC Chief Sudhakaran Responds

Amid speculation regarding a potential change in leadership within the Kerala unit of the Congress party surfaced on Saturday, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president and Lok Sabha MP K Sudhakaran reportedly arrived in New Delhi for discussions. However, in a brief statement to the media in Kannur, Sudhakaran denied any knowledge of a move by the party high command to replace him, adding that he would "readily accept" any such decision, should it be made.

Hectic Parleys In Delhi?

In New Delhi, Sudhakaran reportedly met with senior Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party president Rahul Gandhi, as well as AICC general secretary in charge of Kerala, Deepadas Munshi, reported IANS. His trip to the national capital was seen as a significant development amid the growing chatter around his leadership, particularly given his health concerns, which some reports suggest have made it challenging for him to carry out his duties effectively.

Sudhakaran, a prominent leader from Kannur, has been a crucial figure in Kerala Congress politics, especially as the state prepares for the local body elections later this year, followed by the much-anticipated Assembly polls in 2026.

Some reports suggested that Anto Antony, Pathanamthitta MP, might replace Sudhakaran.  Peravoor MLA Sunny Joseph's name was also doing the rounds.

Sudhakaran Responds To Rumours

Speaking to reporters, Sudhakaran addressed the speculation surrounding his position, clarifying that while he had met with Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi for detailed discussions on Kerala's political landscape, there was no conversation regarding his removal as KPCC president."There were no discussions about removing me. So, you will have to ask the high command if they are going to remove me. I will readily accept any such decision by them. I can only abide by it. I cannot question it," Sudhakaran said, as per a report on PTI.
