Sai Sudharsan shatters Sachin Tendulkar’s record, becomes first-ever to achieve historic milestone

New Delhi: Sai Sudharsan’s outstanding performance during the Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL match on May 2, 2025, at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, solidified his place in IPL history. His strong performance continued a successful streak.

Gujarat Titans’ openers, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, formed a strong partnership, scoring 87 runs in 41 balls after KKR captain Pat Cummins opted to field first. Sudharsan contributed a quickfire 48 off 23 balls, featuring nine boundaries, before falling to Zeeshan Ansari shortly after the powerplay.

Sudharsan’s impressive innings not only secured him the leading run-scorer title (orange cap) but also set several new records.

Sudharsan’s impressive early career in T20 cricket includes surpassing 1500 IPL runs and 2000 total T20 runs, both record-breaking achievements.

Sudharsan achieved a new IPL record, becoming the fastest player to reach 1500 runs, surpassing Shaun Marsh’s previous record.

Sudharsan achieved 2,000 T20 runs in 54 innings, the second-fastest ever, just one inning behind the record. This accomplishment also makes him the fastest Indian to reach this milestone.

Sudharsan achieved a historic milestone in T20 cricket, becoming the first player to reach 2000 runs without ever being dismissed for a duck. In 54 innings, he has consistently avoided scoring zero runs, with only two single-digit scores in the IPL and six overall in his T20 career.

Sudharsan holds the IPL record for most runs scored without ever being dismissed for a duck, surpassing all others except Rinku Singh. He also boasts a remarkable T20 batting average, fifth-highest globally among players with over 200 runs, and the highest IPL average among those with more than five matches played. Despite his impressive T20 performance, he has only featured in one T20I for India, without a batting opportunity.
