Crackdown On Drugs Begins In Pune: BJP MLA Siddharth Shirole Urges Police To Take Action Against Smoking Paper Vendors
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Siddharth Shirole took to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, stating that a crackdown on drugs has begun in Pune after he urged the police to take action against smoking paper vendors.
"Over the past few days, there have been multiple reports regarding a sharp rise in the sale of smoking paper and related paraphernalia across Khadki and nearby areas. This is not just a trend; it’s a red flag pointing toward the growing threat of drug use among our youth," Shirole wrote.
The Shivajinagar MLA said he spoke to Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and urged immediate intervention. "I have requested enhanced vigilance and strict action, not just against physical vendors but also online sellers who are enabling the spread of these substances, not only in Shivajinagar, but across Pune. The Commissioner has assured that the crackdown begins today itself," he said.
"We must remember, gateway substances must be stopped at the source. If we don’t act now, we risk losing an entire generation to addiction. If you have any credible information about vendors, outlets, or even grey-market platforms promoting or selling such items, please report it to me directly. Together, let’s protect our youth and take a stand against this growing menace," Shirole concluded.
