Hailing from Yamge village in Kagal tehsil of Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, Birdev Siddappa Done brought pride to his family and village by securing the 551st rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024. Now, he is set to become an IPS officer. According to the AajTak report, when the final UPSC results were announced, Birdev was in Belgaum, Karnataka, herding his uncle’s sheep and goats.

The report further mentioned that Birdev’s family is engaged in sheep and goat rearing. They own just one acre of land and rely entirely on this traditional occupation for their livelihood. Speaking about his educational qualification, Birdev began his schooling at the local Zilla Parishad school in his village. He also performed well in both his 10th and 12th grade examinations.
Later, he pursued a degree in Civil Engineering from the College of Engineering, Pune. He then moved to Delhi, where he prepared for the UPSC exam for two years. Although he did not succeed in his first two attempts, he achieved significant success in his third attempt.
He scored 775 marks in the written exam and 160 in the personality test. Overall, he scored 935 marks in the UPSC Civil Services(Main) Examination, 2024. Birdev Siddappa Done’s UPSC Roll number is 6607925. He secured All India Rank(AIR) 551.
According to a report by Aaj Tak, Birdev Siddappa Done was unaware that the UPSC results had been announced, as he was busy trimming goat hair in Belgaum at the time. It was a friend who informed him over a phone call that he had cleared the exam and his name was on the list. Although filled with joy upon hearing the news, Birdev chose to complete his work before sharing the update with his relatives. The place, surrounded by more than a thousand goats, soon turned into a scene of celebration.
The report mentioned that Birdev credited his success to his dedication and the blessings of “Bakri Mauli.” He shared that he would utilize the time he got while herding goats to study. A photo of him celebrating his achievement alongside the goats has since gone viral on social media platforms.
