Royal Challengers Bengaluru icon Virat Kohli on Saturday dethroned Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan to become the leading runscorer of IPL 2025.  Virat Kohli made a scintillating 62 runs off 33 balls against familiar foes Chennai Super Kings at the Chinnaswamy Stadium to take his run tally to 505 -- one more than Sudharsan's.

Yesterday, Tamil Nadu batter Sai Sudharsan became the first player to cross the 500-run mark this season after scoring a quickfire 48 runs against SunRisers Hyderabad. He made 504 runs to snatch the Orange Cap from Suryakumar Yadav of Mumbai Indians, who had 475 runs to his credit.

Sudharsan's Gujarat Titans teammates Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill also scored half-centuries against SRH to take their run tally to 470 and 465 respectively to push Virat Kohli further down the list. Ahead of today's match, two-time Orange Cap winner Kohli was fifth with 443 runs to his credit. He punished CSK bowlers to five fours and five maximums to reach the top of the table once again. However, the veteran has played a game more than young Sudharsan, who took the field a total of 10 times so far. The left-hander, who holds the record for the fastest Indian to reach 1,000 IPL runs (25 innings), has five half-centuries to his credit so far. His season is decorated by 55 fours and 15 maximums (50.54).

At 22, he has a genuine chance to become the youngest player ever to win the Orange Cap award in IPL history. Kohli, on the other hand, has seven fifties this season, averaging 63.13. He has struck 44 boundaries and 18 sixes.
