Arts students find paper difficult, demand grace marks
The paper of Contemporary Issues in Indian Economy-I of the second semester of BA-I class, introduced under NEP for the first time and conducted in the morning session today, left the students and teachers wanting for more. They have demanded grace marks Panjab University.
The students were stuck in unit-III, question No. 6, where they were asked to compare the IPR’s of 1956 and 1991. The question carried 18 marks. “The abbreviation IPR can be taken as Industrial Policy Resolution, but at the same time also as Intellectual Property Rights, we got confused. Question number-1, part-7, asking IPR of 1977, of 2 marks, was out of syllabus as the Industrial Policy Resolution of 1977 is nowhere specified,” shared the student.
The topper of a local college shared, “I had great expectations from this paper. The term should have been expanded in any case to provide a clear idea to the students about what they are supposed to attempt.”
Teachers of various colleges expressed resentment and said. “Had the paper setter spared a thought for the students who were to sit and attempt the paper for the first time under the New Education Policy, he or she would not have used abbreviations,” they said.
“Apart from this, the commotion it led to at various examination centres was difficult to handle,” shared Amandeep Kullar, head, Department of Economics, Guru Nanak National College, Doraha. “We are sending a representation to the university asking for grace marks,” she added.
Prof Sandeep Chanana, head of the Economics Department, Kamla Lohtia College, Ludhiana, said that their college too shall be sending a representation to the university.
