Then actress when came to Mumbai had an intention of signing just one film. But, destiny favoured her, and she ended up making debut with a cult classic. This opened doors for her and gave opportunities to work with some of the biggest stars. Today, we will discuss ins and outs about this actress, taking a closer look at her journey.
Born into a middle-class household, Huma Qureshi’s father Saleem Qureshi is a restaurateur, while her mother is a housewife. She has three brothers, including actor Saqib Saleem. Huma pursued Bachelors in History Honours from Gargi University, Delhi. Later, she joined a theatre group and worked with several NGOs as a documentary filmmaker.
In 2008, she came Mumbai to audition for a film, ‘Junction’, which later got shelved. Despite that, she didn’t look back and continued to work in the entertainment industry, starring in various TV commercials. The turning point in Huma’s life came when Anurag Kashyap saw her potential and signed her up for a three-film deal with his company.
Huma made her Bollywood debut with a two-part thriller, Gangs of Wasseypur, and garnered recognition for her performance. Following that, she received several projects such as D-Day, Dedh Ishqiya, Badlapur, Jolly LLB 2, and others, which catapulting her to success. Besides working in Hindi, Marathi, English, Malayalam, and Tamil cinema, Qureshi also starred in the American film Army of the Dead.
Huma also ventured into writing and became an author with her fantasy fiction novel, Zeba: An Accidental Superhero. She also tried her luck as a producer and bankrolled the film, Double XL, under her banner, Elemen3 Entertainment. Apart from being a successful actor, she is also a doting sister to Bollywood actor Saqib Saleem.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Huma will be next seen in the third installment of Jolly LLB. Helmed by Subhash Kapoor, the film also stars Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Amrita Rao, Saurabh Shukla, and Annu Kapoor. Moreover, she also has various other projects in her pipeline, including the fourth season of Maharani.
